The lovely brick exterior of the structure is itself a photographer’s delight: reminiscent of a smaller version of New York’s famous Flatiron Building, the Boxer is a triangle-like wedge of a building that occupies the entirety of its own tiny, idiosyncratic block of Boston. The inside of The Boxer is no less appealing. The lobby is a beautiful, welcoming area. Below you, there are stylish wood floors; above you, the ceiling is lined with a captivating print of a historic map of Boston; on all sides of you as you enter there is ample seating, elegant lighting, and plenty of windows letting in light from bustling Merrimac Street.
The Boxer Hotel Rooms
Individual guestrooms at The Boxer Boston come in a variety of different shapes, sizes, and formats, and contain Serta “Perfect Sleeper” beds. Accommodations include traditional rooms with one king bed or two double beds, and deluxe rooms with one king bed or two double beds. The traditional room with one king bed is also available in an accessible format.
Two kinds of suites are also available at The Boxer: the Junior Suite and the Family Suite. The Junior Suite features all the appealing amenities of regular guestrooms, as well as a well-appointed “living area”; this bonus space contains a comfy couch, stylish coffee table, and additional lighting sources. An accessible version of the Junior Suite option is also available upon request. The Family Suite option consists of a traditional room with two double beds connected to a deluxe room with one king bed and a “shared alcove” space; the result is a two bedroom, two bathroom setup that is perfect for families traveling together.
In-room décor here tends toward what the hotel itself describes “modern industrial chic. In practice, what this means is a fascinating mixture of rustic yet elegant steel wardrobes, vintage gold metal lamps, and a lovely, understated gray-blue color scheme. There is one on-site restaurant located at The Boxer Boston: Finch. Closed for lunch, Finch serves breakfast and dinner 7 days a week. The Boxer Boston is a member of the Independent Collection family of hotel properties. This consortium of historic boutique hotels has proudly operated its very own in-house sustainability program since 2010. Entitled EarthView, this program expresses the Independent Collection’s commitment to designing, implementing, and sustaining environmentally friendly initiatives that benefit local communities and have a meaningful, positive effect on the world around us.
These EarthView efforts have taken many shapes and forms over the course of the past decade, yielding a variety of beneficial and lasting impacts. At The Boxer Boston, these efforts include having energy-efficient lights and light fixtures in all guestrooms; offering recycling in all guestrooms and public spaces; using only recycled-content paper throughout the entire hotel; and implementing an opt-out housekeeping service aimed at facilitating the regular reuse of towels and linens. The Boxer also routinely donates money to charitable green-centric causes: these philanthropic ventures include donating $1 from every bottle of water sold onsite to water.org—an organization focused on water safety and sanitation; and partnering with Clean The World—a non-profit group that gathers (and recycles) soap left behind in hotel rooms across the world each day and distributes those products to those in need.
